About Us

The Canvas Company helps you make your space feel like home. Whether you’re freshening it up or finishing it off, our custom-made products, from squabs and cushions to outdoor bean bags, are designed to your exact style and budget needs.

Kia ora, we’re The Canvas Company - a family-owned business with our origins in the late 1970s.

Today, we’re an integral part of the Canvas City Group, which also includes Inkjet Media New Zealand. This means we bring you the full range of all things canvas, including custom-made soft furnishings and specialist artist canvas.

When Bruce Smith began the business back in the 1970s, he started off selling army surplus stock before moving into top-end camping equipment. We were known as Canvas City back then and the move into camping was a great fit for the business.

However, after 29 years of being on Auckland’s Hobson Street, we have now relocated to Albany.  We also moved out of the camping equipment game to concentrate more on being a supplier of high-quality outdoor fabrics.
