PrePrimed Canvas Reviews
Scott Gardiner - Artist
"After years of experimenting with different canvases I was delighted to discover DX12 from The Canvas Company. Its combination of natural cotton fibres and synthetic polyester strike a perfect balance, creating a canvas with a tight, flat weave and an ability to retain its tension. Certain aspects of my working process require a smooth flat surface, preparing that surface can be a laborious and time consuming task. Because of the unique propeties of DX12 this laborious layering and sanding is minimized and a consistent, workable surface is created with a minimum of time and effort. Another considerable advantage of the DX12's combination of natural and synthetic fibres is the products ability to maintain its tension and elasticity over time. With a purely cotton based product the fibres tend to give after stretching and the stretched canvas may sag. As polyester is a synthetic fibre it has a greater elasticity and does not absorb moisture like cotton, enabling the DX12 to maintain its shape".
Scott Gardiner grew up in Auckland and received a Master of Visual Arts (Hons) from Auckland Institute of Technology in 2003. Scott's landscape paintings are inspired by change; changes caused by the natural world - by tectonic plates shifting and colliding, glacial ice retreating and deserts advancing. Frest and foremost, his paintings are about Scott's distinct spiritual relationship with nature. Scott's art has been exhibited in New Zealand, Australia, and Los Angeles, USA. His work is represented in public collections such as the Wallace Art Awards each year since 2007.
Adrian Jackman - Artist
Adrian c hooses to use our high quality pre-primed 12oz canvas because it has a fine weave that resembles a quality linen. The cloth is easier to stretch than ordinary duck canvas and the surface is great for all painting styles especially detailed. Adrian Jackman is a contemporary painter who is based in Auckland, New Zealand. Adrian graduated in 1997 with a MFA from Auckland University's Elam School of Fine Arts. His paintings investigate the process of art making from a traditonal through to a technological perspective. He is interested in the multiple levels on which drawing and painting can operate on and pictorial systems found within everyday objects. He has exhibited in shows throughout New Zealand with works held in both public and private collections. www.adrianjackman.com
Rachael Foster- Artist
I am mostly self-taught, with a 'back to front' approach - where I start with a vision of what I want to create, only then figuring out which method will help me achieve the desired finish. I push my acrylics to their limit and I'm happy to admit I have no patience for oils - striving as I am for that fleshy, plastic-smooth billboard finish. The works are certainly not chromaphobic either, in fact ridiculously bright, which is sadly often associated with being superfluous, a delusion I'd like to change. Colour is so important giving structure, meaning and emotion to art. Colour is so important giving structure, meaning and emotion to art. The canvas of choice for my originals is DX12 which gives me the smooth texture and powerful white with the vibrant colours I am looking for.
